Women-Owned Businesses getting less than 5% of Government Contracts
{{sigh}}
Today’s recommended reading is an article in Fast Company detailing a report from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
A new report from the Commerce Department finds that the SBA’s efforts to help women get just 5% of government contracts is falling short.
The closest we’ve come to the 5% goal was in 2014, when it reached 4.7% . That’s 4.7% of all government contracts. And that’s pathetic. Let’s fix it, soon.

Working Moms Have More Successful Daughters
Today’s recommended read is from Lifehack.org: “Science: Working Moms Have More Successful Daughters.”
A major study conducted by Harvard University revealed that daughters of working mothers experienced better careers, higher salaries, and more equal relationships than daughters of stay-at-home moms. The study tested the association between being raised by an employed mother and adult children’s outcomes at work and at home. These sons and daughters appeared to have thrived, with adult daughters benefiting the most from the positive role model of a career-oriented mother.

More women living with their parents
If you think about it closely, this news isn’t shocking: the number of adult women living with their parents has reached highest numbers since 1940.
The Pew Research Center just released some fresh crunching of U.S. Census numbers, which found that “36.4% of women ages 18 to 34 resided with family in 2014, mainly in the home of mom, dad or both.”
Wow.

Angela Merkel Named Time Person of the Year
Angela Dorothea Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, has been named Times Person of the Year. She’s the first woman chosen for that “honor” in nearly 30 years.
